Saint Catherine of Alexandria: Philosopher, Mystic, and Martyr

A few days ago, we celebrated World Philosophy Day (4th Thursday of November), a celebration mandated by the UN. Back in university, this was a big day for us philosophy majors. I often wondered why we celebrated it in November (though I’m not complaining, since it’s...

Understanding Christ’s Kingship: Mercy Over Power

If there's one Gospel that redefines what “kingship” looks like, it’s today’s reading. For the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Church gives us Luke 23:35–43. Not a scene of glory, but of a bruised and silent Jesus hanging on the Cross. And yet, sa mismong eksenang...

A Theological Dialogue with Erri de Luca: Prayer, Alterity, and Forgiveness

I came across Erri de Luca’s Nocciolo d’oliva (Edizione Messaggero Padova, 2002) in my Fundamental Theology class in my first year (way back in 2021). Our professor discussed this book in its Spanish translation, Hueso de aceituna (Sígueme, 2021) and I wrote this...

In memoriam – Juan Ponce Enrile

Some unsolicited political analysis and reflection It is an end of an era. For a man who basically was present as Philippine history unfolded from the tumultuous birth pangs of the infantile Republic to the one we have right now. Lolo Juanito, my paternal grandfather...

The Power of Prayer in Times of Crisis

On the 9th of November 2025, as the entire Philippines vigilantly braced for the impact and onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan, we went to Mass, at 7:30pm, the last Mass of our parish. It was also the time that forecasts say when the cyclone will be felt across the...

Postmodern Communication: Byung-Chul Han’s Critique of the “Transparency Society”

Communication is one of the most significant forces in building society and shaping cultures. Today we live in the digital age, following the communication revolution that changed the world. Unsurprisingly, it carries with it many moral questions we must face. The...

Remembering Lola Celia

“A woman of valor who can find? For her price is far above rubies” (Proverbs 31:10) Two years ago, I couldn’t find time to properly grieve the loss of this great woman in my life. Indeed, she reflects this quote from the Book of Proverbs. My Lola Celia was indeed, a...

Power and Character: Leadership Lessons from Cincinnatus for Philippine Leaders

Power in character is knowing when to assume and wield power for the common good. Character in power is knowing when to step down and yield authority to the younger generation. Cincinnatus was a humble Roman farmer in the 5th century BC. When Rome faced a grave...

Emperor Constantine and the Catholic Church Myth: A Historical Fact-Check

Beyond the “Likes” and the “Hearts”: Authentic Evangelization in the Digital Continent

Ever found yourself deep in a late-night scroll, when suddenly an image of Jesus or the Virgin Mary pops up with sparkling stars, glowing clouds, maybe even a caption saying “Bless your day, share this”? Or perhaps a prayer card of Padre Pio, Saint Anthony, Saint...

Lennon

Russel and Lennon had been friends since childhood. They started as Altar Servers of their parish where they began to love Sophia -wisdom- and search for her. Reading and discussing anything that tickles their curiosity, the two friends began to research and share more of their knowledge in religion, society, and philosophy.

With the two now living their life in their own distinct fields -Russel is a civil servant while Lennon is a consecrated person- their passion and vocation of teaching compelled them to open up their private friendly discussions to wider set of friends through TUUMT.
